No, but because I’m using unknowns in the leads and because of the budget given to me by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s company, it’s a more modest production.

Are you going with Gerard Butler for the title role? I remember seeing him in Dracula 2000 and thinking he had real presence.

Yes. I saw him in Dracula 2000 too, and he’s in Timeline and the new Tomb Raider this summer. He’s the greatest, he’s like the Scottish version of Colin Farrell. He’s just a regular guy, he says it like it is. And he’s a fabulous singer. I knew him before we started casting Phantom and he told me he’d been in a band. I asked him if he could sing - not just stand up on stage with a guitar, but really sing - and he said ‘I think I could’. Then when he came in to audition he blew me and Andrew Lloyd Webber away. He’s going to be a great Phantom - a young, sexy Phantom. And I know the Michael Crawford fans are going to be hysterical, but maybe they should stay home then...

As for the female lead, I read it was between Anne Hathaway from The Princess Diaries and an actress named Emmy Rossum.

It’s Emmy Rossum. She’s coming up in Clint Eastwood’s film Mystic River, playing Sean Penn’s daughter. She’s 16 years old, a fabulous girl. She’s this very energetic New York girl but when she played an Appalachian girl in this movie Songcatcher, I honestly thought they’d found some local girl for the role. She was singing with the Metropolitan Opera when she was seven, singing in the kids’ chorus. And then there’s Patrick Wilson - do you know who he is?

He’s in The Alamo, isn’t he?

He’s in that, and Mike Nichols has done the play Angels in America for HBO - he’s the star in that. You know how Hugh Jackman was in Oklahoma in London? Patrick did the same role on Broadway. Those are my three.

Born in Norfolk, Va., 1973. His mother is a singer and voice teacher. His father is a TV anchor in Florida.


1995: He majored in theater from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. Soon after graduation, he obtained the Equity card working at Pittsburgh's Civic Light Opera. He moved to New York City and landed a role in a touring company of "Miss Saigon."


1996: Toured as Billy Bigelow in "Carousel," staged by Nicholas Hytner.

2001: Starred in the independent film "My Sister's Wedding." The romantic comedy tells the story of two sisters and what happens when one of them gets married and the other tries to plan the wedding.


2002: Returned to Broadway as Curly in the revival of "Oklahoma!". Currently filming the HBO miniseries adaptation of Tony Kushner's award-winning "Angels in America," directed by Mike Nichols and starring Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, and Mary Louise Parker.

А вот Патриком Уилсоном я недовольна - Рауль должен быть хотя более симпатичным и аристократичным... ;)))
Что касается Фантома - я вот тоже смотрела "Дракулу-2000". Фильм был настолько ужасен, что оценить таланты Батлера мне не удалось. Но вообще - он слишком молод, мне кажется.

Да, еще - Алан Камминг ("Дети шпионов", "Золотой Глаз" из Бондианы, MC в "Кабаре") будет одним из управляющих.

Да нет, мне как раз "Рауль" ничего, а Кристина обязательно должна быть в этих ужасных кудрищах? Кошмар, с моим личным представлением Кристины это никак не вяжется, ну да ладно, присоединяюсь к возгласу - уж сняли бы хоть что-нибудь, хотя бы чтобы что-то можно было со смаком обругать :D .

Ну, на Фантома маску напялят - и слава Богу :), кто там увидит - молод, стар... А Дракулу 2000 могут ругать те, кто не смотрел Блэйда (или кто его не досмотрел, как я :)), а 2000-й мой любимый из мусорного кино в этом стиле :). Так сказать, замыкает цепочку личного рейтинга... Как раз перед Блэйдом :).

Интересно, почему при виде этой Кристины пришла в голову аналогия с Сарой Брайтмэн, а при виде этого призрака - с Антонио Бандерасом? ;-)

Вообще, насколько мне известно, роль Кристины писалась Уэббером под Сарку. Ну, так говорят. Следовательно и актрису надо было подбирать соответствующую. Кстати, такая харизма как раз в моем понимании Кристины.

А по-моему девушка (Эмми) очень мила. И совсем непохожа на Сарку.

А по-моему, как раз похожа. ;))) И это хорошо, потому что роль действительно писалась под Сарку... :)) Впрочем, главное, чтобы она пела хорошо.
